Initially, satin fabric was made only from natural silk threads, so it was very expensive and only available to nobles and wealthy people. However, recently, cotton, viscose, nylon, polyester, or acetate have been added to its composition. As a result, the price has decreased, the range of applications has expanded, and now almost everyone can afford to buy satin fabric.

Types of Material

Depending on the composition of the threads, the following types of this material can be distinguished:

  • silk - the most expensive, made exclusively from natural silk threads;

  • stretch - elastic and resistant to creasing, contains Lycra fibers;

  • crepe - strong, double-sided, with tightly twisted cross threads;

  • satin - the most natural material, composed of cotton and silk.

Uses

Satin fabric has a very wide range of uses. It is used to make women's and children's clothing, formal wear for special occasions, clothing and accessories for men, carnival costumes, shoe trimmings, or packaging.

Care Instructions

In order for satin products to last long and not lose their appearance, it is important to know how to properly care for them. To do this, always take into account the composition and label instructions. Typically, the fabric is hand washed in cool water after soaking. Machine washing, even in a gentle cycle, sometimes leaves snags. After washing, do not wring out, but dry by wrapping in a towel. Ironing should be done from the inside out using a not too hot iron and without steam.
